Beautiful Rainbow- Poem

I performed this poem today at the GLBT LIVE rally to repeal the Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy.. Enjoy:

I want all the colors of the rainbow to join hands with all the letters of the alphabet,
so that we can have our voices heard in numbers that are too loud to ignore...
we need to be loud..
so loud that we create waves..
waves that will turn into tsunamis of love, that will come crashing down on the walls of hate..
we need to rip the pink triangle off the holocaust victims' chest...
because we are victims no more.
We are brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers.. creators...
and in our image we will create a world where there is a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow...
My grandmother use to tell me that rainbows were God's way of showing us the beauty in all life...
I want our rainbow to be so bright that it becomes a beacon of hope for every boy and girl trapped in their dark closets..
I want to give them the courage to speak, and to give their voice the strength of a million people marching to the beat of our outstretched hearts..
hearts, beating as one..
creating music that would make Beethoven dance...
creating a rhythm that can be heard from here to Iran..
Iran where angels are still murdered for choosing to love...
Let our music be their wings, let our voices lift them up through the clouds of ignorance..
How many hearts have to stop beating for us to start believing that our time is now...
we are here America, we are queer America...
we are every.. beautiful.. rainbow.
